Star Sapphires vs. Starbucks
Can anyone tell me. . .which is the more addictive of the two? I realize the socio-political complications of both these. . .materials (caffeine vs. pretty shiny things) but, alas, do not have the strength to free myself from their pull. Perhaps I will glue star sapphires all over my coffee cup and bliss out every morning. . .

gems of the world
Labradorite from Madagascar,
Star Sapphires from India,
Almandine garnets from. . .Nevada
These are a few of my favorite things.

Thoughts. . .
We've been up in WA state for awhile now. . .the rattlers aren't looking so bad in context with what I'm survivng now. That is, suburban teenagers and soda pop drinkers.

Now, I realize that last comment may get me into trouble with like, 80% of Americans. But for my own cognitive health I'm going to justify and make up excuses for my fellow Americans.

We drink soda pop because:
It tastes good
out of habit and tradition
it has caffeine in it and we need it
other people do it and they're not dead, yet
ummm. . .
carbonation is fun
oral fixation

the choices at the nearest vending machine are limited and I'm desperately dehydrated with exactly .60 in my pocket.

pure ignorance

I am not a health food nut, per se, but have basic common sense that
you shouldn't drink substances that dissolve hardware nails.

If anyone disagrees with this last point, they have a penchant for distruction as well as being ignorant. And there are more creative ways to self-destruct than soda pop. You could, for example- staple bologna on your forhead, and stick in a tank of pirhanas.

And did you know that the inside layer of aluminum used for soda cans is coated with a very thin layer of Carnauba wax from the rainforest, so that the certain sodas won't eat through the aluminum? It's not listed on the ingredients because it's not actually something they put into the soda, just the can. . .

But on a positive note, my fishing skills are improving.

I caught a sunfish with a rake yesterday. . .it was on accident but I pulled it off like. . ."I do yardwork AND dinner, at the same time!"

Not really. . .I can't even claim that. He got away-

There I was with this giant red metal yard rake, poised like a cat over the placid canal bank. Lurking just under the surface was the sunfish. I plunged the rake into the water. I plunged into the water. Cold and muddy, no sunfish. The truth at last.

 Who rakes a canal anyway?
